TERRAFORM / HCL EDITOR

Keep Terraform and HCL examples easy to find.

This draft is shared with the full editor for this task and stays separate from named notes. Export a copy or save to notebook to include it in a notebook backup. This editor page and its tools reopen offline after the editor reports readiness. Informational and privacy guides need a connection.

A FEW SIMPLE STEPS

Get started

  1. Create a note and search for Terraform, HCL, .tf, or .tfvars.
  2. Paste the configuration or import its source file.
  3. Edit the blocks and compare revisions before copying the final source.
  4. Use your Terraform workspace to format, validate, and plan the configuration.

Open editor takes you to the draft on this page. Paste or open a source file, or choose Try this example. Save to notebook keeps a named copy with your notes. Your workspace style stays unchanged.

Save a configuration pattern with its assumptions

Keep provider and module assumptions in comments near the example. Separate reusable variable patterns from environment-specific values, and give each note a title that explains its purpose.

Use comparison panes to review source changes to resource names, variable defaults, and module arguments. The snippet library includes HCL examples and can store your own reusable selections.

Validate and plan in Terraform

HCL mode edits and highlights source. Automatic HCL formatting, terraform validate, terraform plan, and terraform apply are not available in the notebook. It does not connect to a cloud account or manage infrastructure state.

Copy or download the source into the correct Terraform workspace, then run its normal checks. Changing a note’s language does not convert a Terraform plan or state file into another format.

A few questions

Can this editor apply Terraform or format HCL?

No. It provides source editing and syntax highlighting. Use Terraform’s own commands for formatting, validation, plans, and infrastructure changes.
